--RIP-- Andrew Schuyler Gordon, artist, songwriter, music producer, organizer of the The Beat Goes On Foundation and a fierce supporter of progressive politics and civil rights. An early friend of Mr. Trump, Andy played an instrumental role when Mr. Trump endorsed and appointed Andy to the National Arts Advisory Board. Andy was the personal expert on every singer alive, who had ever survived in the music business. That's Andy. The best in the business. He's got a bigger heart than anyone, or does anyone. You'll always be missed, Andy. --LM
Phil got a lot of fans, especially when he said things like this: "The part of living that I really enjoy is making art that moves people." And he did. He was honest, quirky, and warm. He had a great family, lovely dogs, and he was able to write full-time at a time when that was a rare thing to be able to do. He was a guy who preferred spending time at home, outside, maybe out on the deck. He wrote full-time basically until he was in about his 30s and while he did have other projects going at the same time, none of them were as important or as successful as his NYT piece, about the "Kids in the Store".
Laura was one of my great friends. She had a bratty, rebellious attitude about herself, but she was highly funny and was a great person to be around. If I was unsure of my feelings about someone, I would ask Laura. And I always got the right answer. She had a great sense of humor and was kind of the first person to crack a joke on me when I was feeling down. She was such a great writer and had a lot of great journalism (and other things!) to her credit. RIP, Laura.
I don't know what to say about Wade. He was a friend of many years. We never really talked about politics, but I always respected the fact that he was smart, and he tried to hold back. It wasn't until last year that I found out what it was like to have him around and the deeper you got into the conversation you never saw him changing gears. d2c66b5586
